The Workshop with Not Here, Not Anywhere

On the 22nd of February 2018, 2 Representatives from Not Here, Not Anywhere came into our school, to talk to us about Environmental Activism.

At the beginning of the meeting with them, we did a small exercise on Sustainability. We used Sticky Notes to put on the board what we thought Sustainability meant . The word “reuse” came up many times.

We also had to choose whether the word we came up with belonged to the Individual , Community, Government or Society axis.

After this activity we learned about other countries with solar panels and that they are able to sell back electricity to the grid if they do not use the electricity. This statement we found very interesting as in the Republic of Ireland we are not able to do this, and we as a team would love for something like this to be possible in Ireland.

Later, we looked at shocking facts about Energy in the world. The most shocking in many people’s opinion was that the Government spend $775 billion to $1 trillion annually in subsidies for the fossil fuels industry.

We then did another activity regarding what we should do for the YSI Speak Out Tour 2018. We as a team did a brainstorm on a A1 paper choosing what we should do.

After this incredible workshop we all left having more knowledge on the subjects of Sustainability, Environmental Activism and a good idea what we should do for Speak Out 2018.
